Costumes for the 1980s pop duo

The decade beginning in 1980 has become highly popular again thanks to various films and series such as
“Stranger Things” from the USA and “Dark” from Germany. Music from the ’80s is slowly making its way back onto the charts. At themed parties, during Carnival, Halloween, and Karneval, people dress up in striking neon colors, questionable fashion, and funny hairstyles—sweatbands, mullets, and rock/pop guitars are essential. After all, not everyone dressed as stylishly and
tailor-made as Michael Jackson. Are you looking for crazy costumes and costume accessories, or perhaps costume ideas for an ’80s pop duo to start with? Then simply take a look around our Kostümpalast Shop.

Music Celebrated Back Then Is Cult Today

At the latest by 2018, with the major retro wave surrounding the 1980s and 1990s, the music of that era made a comeback too. While bands like Modern Talking were taken seriously back then and listened to more ironically in the meantime, the music of the two German boys is once again coming suspiciously close to the charts. While Michael Jackson, Madonna, Queen, and other bands and artists always work and are played everywhere from parties and department stores to people’s homes, today you mainly hear Modern Talking and similar acts at 1980s-themed parties, during Mardi Gras, Carnival, or for a fright at Halloween. You can buy matching pop musician costumes for women, men, couples, and groups from us.

Famous 1980s Pop Duos for Your Costume Idea

In the 1980s, music played an ever-changing yet consistently important role—not only since 1983, when Modern Talking from Germany began making waves in English-language pop music. Alongside Duran Duran, Genesis, The Cure, New Order, and a-ha, there were also numerous pop music duos whose hits are still often played today. Who doesn’t know Eurythmics, the Pet Shop Boys, Wham!, Soft Cell, Erasure, or Roxette? Bands like these and their individual artists often stood out from existing social conventions not only because of their new style of pop music and the subjects addressed in their songs, but also because of their fashion, hairstyles, makeup, and jewelry accessories.

Modern Talking – Germany’s music export of the ’80s

Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders first shaped the face of pop music in Germany from 1983 onward and then, through their English-language singing, internationally as well. And even though it may look today as if the two members of Modern Talking had been wearing costumes, people actually called that fashion at the time. From denim outfits and blow-dried hairstyles to pink tracksuits with mullets, Bohlen and Anders embraced everything they could. Colorful shirts, complete outfits in white, or contrasting combinations of white and black—everything seemed possible (and acceptable). By now, we have forgiven the two gentlemen for their clothing style, which would be considered a fashion faux pas today. At least, they provided plenty of inspiration for 1980s costume ideas in
the present day.

Modern Talking’s greatest hits still include unforgettable songs such as You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul; Cheri, Cheri Lady; Brother Louie; and, of course, Geronimo’s Cadillac. The band officially existed until 2003—and while Dieter Bohlen continued to maintain a strong media presence, working in music and as a judge on television talent shows, not much was heard from Thomas Anders. Although Anders also continued—and still continues—to make music in the meantime, he attracted less public and media attention than during the Modern Talking era or than Dieter Bohlen did as a solo artist and producer after the band split.
